Chanda-Leah
FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS:-
- How old is Chanda?
Chanda was born Jan. 01, 1994
- Where does the name Chanda-Leah come from?
'Chanda' is a derivative of 'chandelier'. Just as a chandelier
lights up a room, Chanda lights up the lives of the people she
touches. 'Leah' is biblical. The name Leah, means 'weak
eyes'. Chanda's eyes tear and cause facial staining.
Hence the very appropriate name...Chanda-Leah.
- Why is Chanda in the Guinness Book of World
Records? For 'Most Tricks Performed by a Dog'
- How many tricks does Chanda do?
Chanda is responding to well over 500 verbal commands.
- Who trained Chanda? I did.
- Are you a dog trainer?
No.
- What do you think is Chanda's most
spectacular trick? Probably the fact that she knows the
alphabet verbally, and from cue-cards. She knows the numbers
from 1-100 verbally, and she reads them from cue-cards. Chanda
also knows how to add, subtract, and multiply.
- How did she learn the numbers, the alphabet,
and reading? The same way we did...repetition and
memory work.
- What is your favourite trick? This answer has two
parts. One..the fact that she is toilet trained.
I especially appreciate this at four in the morning, and when it is
raining or snowing outside. Two..anytime Chanda is sick, she
throws up on the bathroom floor, not the rugs.
- How did you toilet train Chanda? When
a dogs' nose goes down, and the tail goes up, you take them to the
designated area...in Chanda's case...her toilet. Chanda was
trained in the first five minutes...I was trained for the next three
weeks.
- Why did you buy a poodle? Poodles
are smart, they love to perform, they love to show off, they want to
please their owners, and I wanted an outreach ministry.
- What do you mean by an 'outreach ministry'?
We take Chanda to schools, churches, nursing homes, and hospitals to
entertain. Chanda brings her own special brand of joy to the
lives she touches. She reaches out and 'touches' everyone.
- When did you first notice that she was so smart?
When she would hit the bell in her cage, to let me know that she had
to go 'potty'.
- Why did you teach her so many tricks?
What started out as 'sit', 'stay', 'lie down', 'roll over', 'shake
hands', escalated into the 'World's Smartest Dog'. Chanda was
learning so quickly, and was having so much fun learning, that it
became a game.
- How long does it take Chanda to learn a new trick?
It depends on which trick...but...usually about five minutes. We
practice the new trick five or six times a day. In about a week,
it's perfect.
- Does Chanda always perform perfectly?
I wish! Chanda sometimes dances to her own drummer.
- How does she remember all the tricks?
Chanda doesn't have any trouble remembering...I'm the one who can't
remember. I have to keep everything written down in a book.
- Does Chanda ever get to play and/or just be a dog?
Chanda is a dog, and playtime for her is performing
and doing tricks.
- Do you think there will ever be another Chanda?
Absolutely not. I realize that I might be a little biased
where Chanda is concerned, but she is a phenomenal little dog,
and I seriously doubt we will ever see this kind of intelligence
again.
- What, if anything has ever been said about
Chanda's performances? ...'if I didn't see it with my own
eyes, I wouldn't have believed it'.
- Can I have her? No!
- Would you consider selling Chanda? No!
Dogs love their masters with a passion...Chanda would die of a broken
heart.
- What is Maury Povich like? The
Maury Povich Show was our first national television show. Maury
is a gentle-man, and meeting him was very special. The only
problem is, I used The Maury Show as a bench mark by which I judged
all the other shows.
- What are Regis & Kathie Lee like?
While we were doing the show, exactly the same as you see them on T.V.
. After the show, they were very sweet...they took time to
talk...and have their picture taken with Chanda.
- Why is Chanda in the National Enquirer, I thought
the stories were all made up? Apparently not!
When Regis sneezed, the morning we were on the show, Chanda took him a
Kleenex. I guess it caught somebody's attention.
- Why hasn't Chanda been on the David Letterman Show? They
phoned! I don't think she qualifies for the 'Stupid Pet Trick'
segment.
